Welcome frontliners, keyworkers & community members

We provide wellness facilities for frontline staff and key workers, and we support the St Helier Community Centre & the local community. Donations are very welcome, please help if you can.

X-RAY Wellness formed to help and support the goal of a healthy mind and body. Created by frontline London paramedics, nurses and people who have suffered from PTSD and depression, we host an array of classes including boxing, yoga and fitness. These are part of our positive coping strategies which help to deal with some of the symptoms of stress, anxiety and complex PTSD inherent in our chosen careers, which we believe can help anyone in their day to day lives.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is simple. We want our community to be safe, shame free & non-judgemental.

  • We welcome everyone and commit to supporting each individual to find the best wellbeing route for them.

We live in a world where ‘burnout’ has become normalised and chronic stress leads to imbalance and illness. Physical and psychological stress can take a huge toll on the body and impacts not just our lives but the lives of those we love. Our aim at X-Ray is to offer space for people to come together, create a positive, welcoming environment and find ways to ease levels of stress and anxiety.

  • The important thing to acknowledge is that the road to wellbeing is individual, there is no one way to do it. For some it’s a top down approach, engaging the mind, whether it’s through conversation, mindfulness or talking therapy, to impact the body. For others it’s a bottom up approach, engaging the body through sport, dance or yoga to slow down and impact the mind. Whatever way works for you we are here to support you and promote balance.

  • For those of you who work in frontline jobs we also want to raise awareness of Vicarious and Secondary Trauma along with complex PTSD. We want to open up a conversation and normalise self-care. So, our focus at X-Ray is to share skills and techniques, empower the community to lead and share whilst focusing on individual and collective wellbeing.

What is PTSD, Complex PTSD, Secondary and Vicarious Trauma?

PTSD

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an anxiety disorder that can develop after a person experiences a traumatic event.

Complex PTSD

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder may be diagnosed if a person has experienced prolonged or repeated trauma over a period of months or years.

Secondary/Vicarious Trauma

This refers to the indirect trauma that can be experienced when we are exposed to difficult images, behaviours and stories second hand. We can end up experiencing similar feelings to the person who has experienced trauma.

Over time repeated exposure to a person’s experience can have a negative impact on our overall mental health. Anger, frustration and apathy are a few examples of how we may feel, and it is important we develop a sense of our own individual warning signs and that we develop tools to manage these negative effects.
